Our next stop was a city where Nathaniel served as a missionary-- and was also the city where Joan of Arc was kept as a prisoner and killed.
The location where she was burned at the stake.
They've built a church/community hall right next to the spot outside where she was burned. It is filled with artistic tributes to the young woman.
Ruins of the original church that stood there (just outside the new building).
Elder Hancock and his old stomping grounds. :)
Mmm. Time for a snack!
Look at the bullet marks in that building! Hard to forget how recent war really was (relatively speaking) when you're in Europe.
The last remaining tower of the complex where Joan of Arc was held (though not in this actual tower-- that one and all the rest were destroyed).
The biggest tower (top left) is the one that is still standing. Joan was held in the bottom left tower.
Local cathedral. I can never get enough of them.
Adam and Eve
Again- I'm a sucker for Mary and Christ statues. So beautiful.
I'm also a sucker for this kid-- he was such a great traveler!
I loved this painting!
"Famous" stairway (it's on their postcards, anyway). ;)
In EVERY single cathedral we visit, William asks to "make fire." Often we say no- just because it holds no spiritual meaning for us (or because I don't have a 50cent or Euro piece to pay for the suggested donation), but on this trip we relented most times, as he had really been a good boy!
