The drive from Frankfurt to Paris takes us through
Verdun, France (which is amazing and totally worth a
visit for some major WWI history immersion). On the drive through, there are countless signs pointing directions to US memorials and/or cemeteries. Back in January, on a whim, we decided to follow one of the signs... My complaint about these signs is that they give no indication as to how far away these sights are... but oh well. We found it eventually. While winding through picturesque teeny towns and vinyards we also saw a sign indicating an 11th century church. Curiosity grabbed us, and we visited. It was beautiful!! ... but closed. This August with two of my sisters in tow, we decided it was worth the detour on the way to Paris to visit it again (planning well in advance to make sure we'd be able to go inside). :)

When we first got there, they were running a little tour... in French... in a very small cathedral (comparatively, anyway) with crazy acoustics. The sisters (as in me and my sisters, not nuns) decided it
might be best to keep my pent-up-energy-monkey-boys outside to burn some energy and send N in to get the details of the tour. It was a good plan and worked well for us. :) We explored the cemetery, enjoyed the scenery, and took tons of pictures. :)

This picture is a little out of focus, but I LOVE how this tree took over the tombstone.
Yeeaahh... Still working on the graveyard reverence thing with the kiddos...

Tabitha posing it up. Love her!

Tamar and my monkeys. :)

Choir bench...

... and the carving on the bench that a choirboy carved during WWII... see the bombs shooting up from the left down onto a house on the right?

Family Photo Fail part 2. Stay tuned-- we've got dozens. ;)

As we left the church and started back out on our journey to PARIS we passed some cows. :) So, we decided to stop and get some pictures. haha I LOVE this picture of Tabitha. Makes me laugh every time I see it.

At first the cows kinda ignored us.. and then started started walking away... but then. somehow. they started ALL walking towards us!

It kinda freaked us out-- maybe more so that some farmer would come out yelling at us! So, we hopped back in the car and were on our merry way to Paris. Post coming soon. :)
